Hate speech poses grave dangers for the cohesion of a democratic society, the protection of human rights and the rule of law.
This kind of communication that is in speech, writing or behavior that attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory language with reference to a person or a group of person is gradually eaten deep into the Cameroonian society.
The on going anglophone crisis in the Northwest and South West regions of Cameroon has made matters worse as the rate of hate speech on social media has given the crisis another twist which might lead to more violence.
Against this backdrop. the YAWC Network Cameroon chapter will run a one month online campaign beginning from the 2 of March to raise awareness of the problem as well as boost messages of tolerance.
The campaign will involve the publication of such messages on all our social media platforms as well as on individual members social media handles.
Signed
Rosaline Akah Obah
Président
