The Young African Women Congress Network has paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Dr Ben K.D. Asante at his office in Accra, Ghana.
The visit was in line with the Network’s stakeholder engagement programme, to enhance equitable representation of women at top management levels in corporate organizations.
The delegation from YAWC Network included Mr Daniel Osei Tuffuor, the Executive Chairperson of the Network; Ms Matilda Hammond, the President of YAWC Network Ghana Chapter and Ms Victoria Asamoah, ESQ., a member of the YAWC Network Ghana Chapter.
Mr Osei Tuffuor who led the delegation briefed the Ghana Gas CEO on the works of the YAWC network in Ghana and Africa. He emphasized on providing equitable opportunities to women for them to rise to the top in corporate organizations. He also commended Dr Asante on his efforts to bridge the gender gap at the managerial level in a male dominated organization like Ghana National Gas Company.
Ms Matilda Hammond recounted the impact the network has made in Ghana and Africa through its national chapters, since its inception in 2016. She informed the Ghana Gas boss that during Covid 19 pandemic, the network embarked on a unified campaign against rape and defilement and they brought a number of perpetrators to book. “We have consistently fought against Gender-based violence including female genital mutilation”. She added.
The team also seized the opportunity to inform Dr Asante about their upcoming programmes and projects including the Young African Women Congress 2024 Annual Global Convocation which is scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria from 27th to 31st October, 2024.
In his response, Dr Ben Asante welcomed the delegation to his company and expressed his satisfaction to the impact the network is making in Ghana and Africa. He expressed his readiness to work with the network in the area of violence against women and girls.
