The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network Council has appointed Ms Matilda Hammond as President of the YAWC Network, Ghana Chapter. She will be the third President for the Chapter since the Network’s inception in 2016. She takes over from Rebecca Colecraft who has been the president since October 2020.

Ms Hammond is a Business Executive and currently, the Executive Secretary for the Bureau for International Development, Exchange and Commerce (BIDEC). She is the founder and Executive Director of the Tilly and Friends Foundation, a charity-based organisation that focuses on orphans.  She worked as a Volunteer at the Clients Experience and Brand Image Unit at Best Pensions Trust. She was also a Quality Assurance Executive, Assistant Supervisor and Customer Service Executive at Tech Mahindra-Airtel Call Centre from 2012 to 2018. In May 2022, she led a delegation of over fifty young Ghanaian women to attend the first ever East Africa Sub-regional session of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2022 in Nairobi, Kenya. She subsequently became an Executive member of the Ghana Chapter of the YAWC Network. She has been a vibrant member of the YAWC Network since July 2019.

She holds a BSc. in Business Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Diploma in Mass Communication from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Ms Hammond is expected to move the Ghana Chapter of the network from it current state to the next level.

In the same vein, Dr. Emefa Priscilla Amenyah Kove has been appointed by the YAWC Network Council as the Vice President for the Ghana Chapter.

Dr Emefa is a Petroleum Engineer and Lecturer at Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Tarkwa, Ghana. Her research interests include drilling fluids, petroleum waste management, agro-waste management, and economics of petroleum projects. She is passionate about encouraging, mentoring, and coaching young females to pursue STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses. As a person with a disability, she is concerned about accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities. According to Dr. Emefa, it is entirely feasible to create a society that respects the rights of minorities, particularly women, children, and people with disabilities. She is a 2022 Mandela Washington Fellow and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).

She has a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology, Ghana and BSc in Petroleum Engineering from the same University.

Having been a member of the YAWC Network since 2018, Dr Emefa is expected to bring her passion to see young women grow to become better persons, on board in order to pull more women into the empowerment net to make our society a better place.
