Josephine Ndirias Lengipis has been appointed by the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network Council as President of Kenya Chapter of the pan-African women’s network. She takes over from Ruth Jemutai Rop, Esq who has been the leader of the country’s Chapter since 2018.
Ms Ndirias Lengipis is a passionate social worker with well demonstrated experience in successfully addressing gender-based violence issues in pastoral communities including but not limited to an exemplary fight against FGM in Il Ngwesi Maasai Community of Laikipia County in Kenya. For the last 8 years, she has focused on building effective community structures for indigenous women and girls to have space to grow themselves and get enough space for their growth and development, ending harmful cultural practices especially Female Genital Mutilation and early/forced child marriage. A responsible, creative, and energetic person with good interpersonal skills, high level of motivation and ability to work under minimum supervision in a team work environment. She has facilitated numerous community meeting/workshop and youth camps, school based workshop and women groups on Gender Based Violence. She has an impressive experience in initiating and managing projects to address identified community needs and an ability to monitor and evaluate the status of the projects during and after implementation using relevant information and data collection tools. She is the Programmes Coordinator for Mukogodo Girls Empowerment Programme (MGEP). She formerly worked as a Coordinator for “Doctors of The World” and her key responsibilities includes managing county-level coordination with key stakeholders including MoH; ACF; UNICEF; UN WFP; and others as applicable. She also worked at the Health Records Department of Pope John Paul II Huruma Health Centre. She has been a member of the YAWC Network since 2021 and she was the Coordinator for the Local Planning Committee of the maiden edition of East Africa Sub-regional session of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) in May 2022 in Nairobi Kenya.
She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She has a Diploma in Philosophy from University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Health Records management from Mount Kenya University and a Certificate in Health Records Management & Information Technology from Kenya Medical Training College.
Carolyne Ongola Barasa has on the other hand been appointed as the vice President of the YAWC Network, Kenya Chapter, an elevation from her former role as Secretary/Treasurer of the Chapter.
Carolyne Ongola Barasa is a trained teacher by profession. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Education science. She also holds a certificate in Guiding and Counseling. She is a seasoned high school Teacher of Computer studies and Geography. A field she has excelled in by producing competitive students that are a success story in Kenya. With 10 years as an educator, she has been exceptional, real-world inquiry-based teacher and Counselor. She strives to maintains positive, constructive and professional relations with students, their families and colleagues. She is an advocate of women’s empowerment, and girl child protection champion.
She is competent and consistently meets the ambitious goals of rapid growth needs in organisations she works with. She is currently the outgoing secretary/treasurer to the YAWC network, Kenya chapter. Previously was the secretary to the gender and culture committee in Kakamega County in Kenya.
