The School of Women and Gender Studies at the Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda is partnering Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network for the upcoming sub-regional session of the young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2023 which is scheduled for April 2 to 5, 2023 in Kampala Uganda. This was contained in tweet on the official twitter handle of the pro women network.
As part of the partnership agreement, Makerere University will be providing some logistical support to YAWC Network including venue for the congress. They will also be providing some seasoned speakers to engage the participant during the session.
The Dean of Women and Gender Studies at the University, Prof Sarah Ssali will chair the congress.
Organised by the YAWC Network and its partners, the Young African Women Congress has empowered thousands of young women of African descent who are living in Africa and the diaspora to be change agents in their communities since its inception in 2016. The sixth annual continental convocation of the congress was held in October last year in Accra, Ghana. The organisers introduced and successfully hosted the maiden edition of the East Africa sub-regional session in Nairobi-Kenya in May last year with the intention of taking empowerment to the doorstep of every African woman.
The second edition of the East Africa Sub-regional session is scheduled for 2nd to 5th April, 2023 at the Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda under the theme, “Women’s Empowerment for Sustainable Development; A Collective Responsibility”.
The East Africa session under the aforementioned theme will access the empowerment tools being employed on the African continent and analyse the sustainability of their impact on the development and progress of women. The session would also mobilise and advocate for support for projects that has women’s development as their focus.
YAWC is open to young women of Africa and the diaspora who wish to be a part of the biggest platform for women empowerment in Africa. The platform promotes knowledge sharing and intellectual discourse and most importantly, engenders a strong sense of belonging which propels participants to become changemakers in their immediate environments with rippling effects on the continent at large.
