A Delegation from the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa, in the Western Region of Ghana, Professor R.K. Amankwah, on Wednesday, 13th March, 2023 in his office at UMaT, Tarkwa.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss potential collaboration between the University and the pro women’s network.
The delegation which included key figures in the network, was led by Dr Emefa Priscilla Amenyah Kove, Vice President of the YAWC Network Ghana Chapter and a Lecturer at UMaT. Others were Dr Etornam Fiadonu Bani, Chairperson for the Global Girl Child Education Committee for the network and a Lecturer at UMaT; Dr Ohenewa Kakra Dankwa, Member of the Global Girl Child Education Committee and Head of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department at UMaT and Ms Abigail Baffour Snr., a member of YAWC Network Ghana Chapter and an MSc student at UMaT.
The delegation introduced the network’s aims and activities and sought support from the University for an upcoming event promoting girls in STEM.
The Vice Chancellor expressed enthusiasm for the network and emphasized the importance of such groups in increasing female enrollment. He encouraged the delegation to continue supporting young women at the university.
In her closing remarks, the Vice President of the Ghana Chapter of the Network, Dr Amenyah Kove thanked the Vice Chancellor for his time and pledged the network’s dedication to its course.
