On Monday 25th March, the Young African Women Congress Network, Ghana Chapter paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) in Ghana, Dr Edwin Alfred Provençal.

Β The purpose of the visit was to commend him and his company for the amazing work they are doing to enhance the women empowerment agenda in corporate Ghana, and also to familiarize with the company. The delegation from the YAWC Network included Matilda Hammond, the President of the Ghana Chapter; Judith Kafui Darkey, a Member of the Global Projects & Campaigns Committee, Girl Child Education Committee and Global Sponsorship & Grants Committee; Mavis Amegah, Member of the Global Business Committee of the Network and Sandra Abayateye, also a member of the Ghana Chapter.

Β Ms Hammond who led the delegation, informed the BOST MD of the mission and vision of the pan-African women’s network, its scope of activities and the impact made in the lives of women on the African continent and beyond through advocacies and campaigns against social menace like female genital mutilation, gender based violence including rape and defilement, promotion of women’s economic empowerment and leadership, among others.

 The group also seized the opportunity to inform the petroleum company boss of their impending programs which includes Girls in STEM and women in Tech as well as the 2024 annual convocation of the network. Dr Edwin Alfred Provençal who received the delegation together with his core team in the company, was very impressed with the works of the network. He recounted the need for society to be intentional about the empowerment of women which is the only way to development. He also encouraged the group to consider venturing into women in energy and also advocate for the inclusion of women in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Finally, the delegation presented a citation of honor to Dr ProvenΓ§al for his contributions to women’s development at BOST.
