Date: Sunday 22 – Thursday 26 July 2018
YAWC 2018 will be the third edition of the annual Young African Women Congress (YAWC). Just like the previous editions, YAWC 2018 will bring together young women of African descent from across the globe to deliberate on specific issues of feminine concern.
This year, the congress concentrates on the economic empowerment of women and its effects on the development of the continent. Economic empowerment of women has been identified as very crucial if not the most crucial tool for women’s independence and progress. Women are among the poorest in every nation in Africa and their poverty affect children and families. The surest way to end poverty and ensure the sustainable growth and development of Africa is through the economic empowerment of women.
To identify specific barriers confronting women in the informal and formal sectors
To ascertain ways of formalising the informal sector work to provide better economic security especially for women in rural settings
To create awareness on the need for efficient division of labour for unpaid care and domestic work
To encourage women into deliberate entrepreneurship including in traditionally male-dominated sectors
To uphold the relationship between economic development and the need for social inclusion as basis for establishing workable social protection policies and laws
To tackle sexual harassment which is demotivation for women’s entry and rise in Corporate Africa
To create a network of the next crop of African women corporate leaders with intentional and collective goals
To promote African culture and tourism
